Some answers to your questions

Do you sell live chicks and turkey poults?

Generally, no. When it's time to rotate our layers, we will offer them for sale and/or take them to auction.

Is your poultry certified organic?

No. We feed organic supplement grain to our meat birds and non-GMO supplemental feed to our layers. Our farm does not use any form of insecticide or fertilizer, other than chicken droppings. We feel it is most important to concentrate on quality of our product by humane treatment of the birds and with sustainable practices and by providing our employees with a decent income.

What is a "spatchcock chicken"?

To spatchcock means to cut out the chicken's backbone and press the bird flat so that it cooks in a single layer. This is a great way to grill chicken and to save space when freezing it.

How much does your chicken cost?

Every year we publish an updated price list with our whole and parted bird prices. We try to be competitive with other farms that use organic feed and who pasture their birds taking into account a number of factors. Those include cost of birds (which we receive at one day old), feed, bedding, labor (very labor intensive), utilities, supplies, packaging including bags and labels, cost of delivery, and participation in farmers' markets, to name a few. The updated price list is available in April.

What breed of meat bird do you raise?

We have found Cornish Cross birds to be the optimal choice for us as the on-pasture season is comparatively short. They are ready to process in 7-8 weeks.  Cornish Cross are known for

their large breasts.

Do you process other people's birds?

No, our license does not allow us to process birds other than our own.
